The vaccine passport system won’t cut Covid 19 transmission. It is simply the most recent step in a long series of attempts to stop Covid 19 from tipping our long neglected and already fragile hospital system over.

The National Post quotes the Premier of Alberta admitting his government proceeded with vaccine passports as a way to stop the transmission of the virus and ‘forcing’ young people to take the ‘jab(s);’

“I thought that the best way to persuade the vaccine hesitant to come forward was through persuasion and not by making people feel they were being compelled to do so. Unfortunately that has not worked,” Kenney told National Post in an interview Friday morning. “So, we regrettably came to the conclusion that the only way to cut viral transmission, without destroying businesses, people’s livelihoods, was a program like this.”

Tyler Dawon, Jason Kenney on why he brought in vaccine passports for Alberta: ‘We just ran out of options’

Jeffrey Tucker writing for The Brownstone Institute summarizes the situation in the United States:

At each stage of control, there were new claims that we’ve finally found the answer, the key technique that would finally slow and stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Nothing worked, as the virus seemed to follow its own course regardless of all these measures. Indeed there was no observable difference anywhere in the world based on whether and to what extent any of these measures were deployed.

Finally came the pharmaceutical interventions, voluntary at first but gradually mandatory, just as with each previous protocol began as a recommendation until it was mandated.

At no point in these 19 months have we seen a clear admission of failure on the part of government officials. Indeed, it’s mostly been the opposite, as the agencies double down, claiming effectiveness while citing no data or studies, while social media companies backed it all by taking down contrarian posts and brazenly deleting accounts of people who dare cite dissenting science.

The vaccines haven’t stopped the transmission of Covid 19; why would vaccine passports?

Desperate people who have lost touch with reality will ‘double down’ on ineffective strategies because they simply don’t know what to do next. No one wants to admit the obvious – the public health strategies have failed to ‘cut’ virus transmission and our long neglected hospital systems are being overwhelmed. Who can be blamed and scapegoated? When governments and public health officials do this we are in for a lot of trouble as a society.

Israel is a case in point – a warning to Canada and the rest of the world. An article from the popular journal Science quotes the Israeli Minister of Health:

“Now is a critical time,” Israeli Minister of Health Nitzan Horowitz said as the 56-year-old got a COVID-19 booster shot on 13 August, the day his country became the first nation to offer a third dose of vaccine to people as young as age 50. “We’re in a race against the pandemic.”

His message was meant for his fellow Israelis, but it is a warning to the world. Israel has among the world’s highest levels of vaccination for COVID-19, with 78% of those 12 and older fully vaccinated, the vast majority with the Pfizer vaccine. Yet the country is now logging one of the world’s highest infection rates, with nearly 650 new cases daily per million people. More than half are in fully vaccinated people, underscoring the extraordinary transmissibility of the Delta variant and stoking concerns that the benefits of vaccination ebb over time.

Meredith Wadman, A grim warning from Israel: Vaccination blunts, but does not defeat Delta

Is this the solution – more boosters and then boosters for the booster? This strategy fits the definition of insanity – doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results!

Premier Kenny admits that the vaccine passports are really to ‘control’ young people;

Kenney says he believes the vaccine passport is going to be effective in convincing younger Albertans to get vaccinated — those between 20 and 35 are languishing at less than 70 per cent with a single dose, and less than 61 per cent with both doses.

“The proof of vaccination program … it seems to be pretty effective at getting the attention of that cohort, who want to socialize, they want to go out to bars, and it inconveniences their social life if they don’t get vaccinated.”

Why don’t we just admit like Premier Kenny that it isn’t about stopping Covid 19 – it’s about controlling citizens living in a country with a crumbling neglected health care system!

Then perhaps more effective public health policy decisions and strategies can be developed to deal with the real world we find ourselves in.
