Daniel 12:10 “Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.”
In the end God’s Word will accomplish His purpose; “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11) God sent His Word to us in person; “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
God speaks to us through His Word and we understand by His Holy Spirit; ” For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) And there is the issue and the divide – without the Holy Spirit the message is meaningless and empty – it cannot be understood.
Paul tells us; “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18) What’s missing in those who are perishing? Paul explains; “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” (1 Corinthians 2:11,12)
Daniel had God’s Spirit when he was given the wisdom to understand and interpret dreams. Even the wise and powerful men of his day recognized the true source of his wisdom; “The king spoke, and said to Daniel, ‘Are you that Daniel who is one of the captives from Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah? I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. Now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not give the interpretation of the thing.'” (Daniel 5:13-15) In those days, God’s wisdom was acknowledged as superior even by wicked men. But not today!
What has changed? The battle lines are drawn. With Jesus’ coming and the Holy Spirit there is a clear separation between light and dark for those who have eyes to see it with. Those without eyes to see with find the light scalding to their worldly sensitivities; “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” (John 3:19,20) Like brutish beasts the wicked avoid the Light not because they understand but because they hate how the Light feels on their flesh!
How can you become wise and live in the Light? How do you receive the Holy Spirit? You’re born into it! This is a work entirely of God; “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12,13)
Jesus tells us; “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. . . . You must be born again. The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:5-8) You’ll never be the same. When you’re born again, there’s no going back.
Come Lord Jesus!
