Isaiah 55:11 “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
There are many invisible forces and agencies operating in our world. Can you see gravity? Yet, its influence is present everywhere. Sir Issac Newton described gravity as a universal force. Einstein conceptualized gravity as a warp in the very fabric of space and time. For many gravity is invisible and unnoticeable because it is so pervasive. Of course, that doesn’t mean gravity doesn’t exist. People take gravity for granted because they can’t see it and only notice its effect during terrible catastrophes. Then they curse their fall. So it is with God’s Word.
God’s Word is the mightiest force operating in the universe. God’s Word created the universe and upholds it; “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power . . . ” (Hebrews 1:1-3)
Some people say there is no God working in the world? People jeer; ‘We can’t see Him working. There is no evidence, no proof of God! No one can see Him or His Word working!’ The Bible tells us to expect this kind of rapacious blindness; “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? Who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord.” (Psalm 14:1-4) Willful blindness eats up the faith of many.
God’s Word will accomplish what He desires; “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” (John 3:16,17) God’s Word existed before creation; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1:1-5)
And so it is. Today, God’s Word goes forth into the world carried by His true church – a church abiding in His Word; “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16) His Holy Spirit is the agency of change that pervades the entire world; “. . . He will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.” (John 16:8 – 10) The Holy Spirit works in all, and through His church, over all the world.
His will be done.
Come Lord Jesus!
