Acts 19:13-16 “A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, ‘I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!’ Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this.  But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, ‘I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?’ Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered.”

We can all say ‘Jesus’.  We can all say ‘praise Jesus’.  We can all say ‘Jesus saves’. Do we all mean it?   Like the seven sons of Sceva, there are many who use the name of Jesus in their incantations.       Do we honour Him?  Do we follow Him?  Do we know Him?  Religious insincerity can lead to a rapid drastic ‘turning of the tables’ where victory becomes defeat and pride leads to humiliation.

In Paul’s day the demons didn’t put up with name dropping imposters.  They turned the tables and  laid a hard beating on the fakes.  Today, things are different.  The demons and the fakes seem to have an ‘understanding’.  Many don’t  believe in real demons any more than they believe in the real Jesus.   The demons are careful not to beat up on fakes because they like it that way.   Jesus warned us of these fakes; “. . .  many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.  And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:11,12)  Preaching half the gospel, a twisted gospel or no gospel at all about a made up Jesus is OK and the world  and the demons love it.

Quite often, today,  the person that speaks the true Gospel takes the beating.  But only in this world.  Standing up for Jesus brings a blessing;  “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11,12)  The tables have turned because standing up for the real Jesus and His Truth is as unpopular as it was but promoting fake gospels is a growing profitable industry.

Scripture tells us of this sad state of affairs; ” . . . in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

A fake church rises willingly but often unknowingly to bind themselves to demonic forces; “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” (1 Timothy 4:1-5)

Indeed the antichrist will eventually corrupt churches who depart from the Word of God; “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12)  God turns the table on the corrupted church and the antichrist.  The very lies they love to tell and hear will snare them.

There is only one antidote to the antichrist!  The Gospel Good News is it’s free and available to all.  The antidote is the Word of God and you find it in the Holy Bible.  It’s easy to administer daily injections and God Himself provides the faith needed to activate it’s healing and protecting power.  You can’t fool the Word of God and safely in it – no one can fool you; “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

Turn the tables on the liars and fakes of this world who would enslave you. Live in and through the Truth of His Word; ” . . . we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.” (2 Thessalonians 2:13)

     Praise the Lord!
