When you wake up in the morning or when the sun rises even if you haven’t slept well, you have to face a new day. Not just a new day but your day! Like the old adage; ‘Today is the first day of the rest of your life’. What are you going to do with it?
How will you deal with the hundreds of little decisions that daily life places upon us? Whether in good times or in bad times, life presents choices. When the light of the new day comes you must walk in the choices you will make until the day is done. Viktor Frankl a Holocaust survivor said; ““Human behaviour is not dictated by conditions that man encounters, but by decisions he himself makes.”
For all, the bed that we get up from every morning has all the lumps and bumps of our past choices as well as the comforts of a clear conscience. But the past is the past and each man has to rise from it and face his present. For the choices we make we must live the consequences of no matter what life throws at you. Those choices make our bed that we must sleep in at the end of the day.
Jesus tells us how to face our day. Are you anxious? Having trouble setting up priorities? Do you borrow trouble from tomorrow?; “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” (Matthew 6:33,34) When you get up, take a few moments with His Word and in prayer ask for His help through the day! Jesus promises us that by making God’s righteousness a priority everything else will follow. Pray that promise into your life!
Are you tempted? Ask Jesus to lead you as He taught us to pray: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” (Matthew 6:13) Know that God won’t place you in any situation that is impossible; “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
Are you in a tough spot? Remember that God promises never to leave us or forsake us as long as we put HIm first; “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ ” (Hebrews 13:5) If you make the decision to let God work in your life before you mess around with it then you can count on His solution being the best for you; “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Don’t do something stupid before God’s wisdom can work in your life!
Are you afraid and just too beat up to rise up? The Gospel Good News is that Jesus is looking for you! And He sees further and sharper than any of your creditors, detractors and enemies; “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) If you call out to Him – HE WILL FIND YOU!
Every day brings hundreds of choices and it’s your job to choose life; “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” (Colossians 3:5 – 10) Each morning, put on your ‘new self in Christ’ and live His way – God will take care of the rest!
When your decisions are made from the Way Jesus tells us to live then you will have a most precious gift – His presence, guidance and peace in your Life; “. . . the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:26,27)
Make your decisions based on His way and you will sleep well.
